Gloria, Dolly, and Me

That’s what Dolly and Gloria gave us: permission. Gloria gave permission through argument, organizing, and sheer persistence. Dolly gave it through a song, a business empire built on her own terms, and a refusal to let anyone else hold her publishing rights, name, or story. Neither one waited for the world to agree with her first.

Gloria and Dolly and Robin were doing the same work from different directions, and this week, all at once, we lost every direction at once.
